You probably already know by now that my name is Steven Honders. I’m a 28 year old game designer from the Netherlands. I’m a game designer, because I love to make people experience new things. Emotions, reactions and behaviours fascinate me and I relish in the possibility to influence them and make people experience something through interactive systems. The fact that someone can play a game I worked on and experience joy, sorrow or any emotion, on the other side of the world, blows my mind.
I love talking to people and learning about their ambitions, opinions and thoughts on a wide variety of subjects. I try to incorporate the new things I learn into the games that I make.
I’ve worked as a level designer, gameplay designer, user experience tester, producer, marketing guy, community manager and social media expert on several projects (some of them school projects at HKU). I believe in my skills and that I fit these roles, because of the frequent interaction that you have with a great number of people, each with different priorities.
I’m also a big believer in sharing experiences and knowledge, to give other people new ideas and a better chance at succes. I’m very active on social media and regularly write blogs about subjects that I have experience on or am strongly opinionated about. I’m open to discussing the subjects of my blogs and provide further advice and opinions if asked for. Every person that learned something from my success, but even more importantly, my mistakes, makes me a bit happier.
In the past I’ve attended multiple events as a public figure for Speelbaars, a company that I’m co-founder of. I’ve been at Gamescom, Indigo, Indievelopment, Firstlook, Momocon and others. I’m comfortable in talking with press and publishers and have done interviews and provided information for different news outlets (GameKings, NOS op 3, Volkskrant, etc).
Besides games I’m interested in Medieval history, Psychology, Football and Geography.
